Today, the 11th day of the 11th month, is a holiday observed annually as a special day of remembrance and honoring all who serve their countries and protect our freedoms.
Here in the USA we observe it as Veterans Day, while in the UK and Canada and throughout the Commonwealth it’s known as Remembrance Day.
Each year Lapel poppies like this one are sold in Canada to help raise funds for various service charities and similar efforts are carried out in the UK and elsewhere. This time of year everyone contributes to a “Field of Poppies” by wearing their poppy on their lapel and in fact Remembrance Day is often referred to as Poppy Day.
We thank and honor our Veterans and all those who are serving, not just on November 11th but every day, for their brave and selfless service to our countries and for their personal sacrifices that ensure our democracies and the freedoms we all enjoy. Blessings for each and every one and for their families as well.
And now for our easy Monday tangle …
Canadian tangler Judy Murphy shares her lovely Dalaflow with us today, “This tangle is called Dalaflow as it feels like a cross between a mandala and a flower.”
Judy has lots of lovely and quirky tangles on the site, Dalaflow is her 15th!
For my example I created a ribbon-style version of Dalaflow. First I placed evenly-spaced dots where I wanted the centers to go then added Dalaflow‘s loops and finished with a touch of shading. As with most tangles, the best way to tangle it is to turn, turn, turn your tile so your hand is always in the same comfortable orientation. Dalaflow is easy and very pretty and as Judy notes, it has “many alternatives for drawing and shading.”
Judy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Dalaflow below together with several examples of ways to embellish it.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your comment helps motivate them to continue to share!

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." I Really liked drawing this tangle! I got a feeling of drawing something barouqe-ish. This tangle truly appealed to me. Thank you so much for sharing with us!
Very simple and pleasing to draw and look at. Still loving this one! Thank you Judy!
