How to draw PD

Today we have an easy one to explore and it has both curvy and straight lines!

Ohio tangler Joan Stark is back to share her PD tangle with us.

Joan has several fun tangles on the site, in fact PD makes it an even dozen so far.

Joan explains the name for her latest tangle and how she discovered it:

The P and D in the title of this tangle stands for “Pool Deck”.

I’ve mentioned before that I spend a lot of time at my city’s recreational swimming pool. And as I was there one day I looked at the pool deck drains. I mean “REALLY” looked at them. Wow, what a discovery.

Most new tangles just appear on the page as I’m drawing. But this one was discovered “in real life” and was the muse for PD.

Joan provides us with two ways to tangle PD. The first illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing PD as a ribbon-style tangle with examples of ways to vary it. Her examples include A-Dalpha and A-Frame.

This second illustration is the version of PD I used for my example except instead of using a double-stroke grid I used the basic single line one and added shading in the center and was suprised to see it created the effect of flowing into the drains 😉 .
