Today’s sweet ribbon-style Ankh tangle is from Ohio tangler Beryl Prusinoski.

Although she’s been a tangler for a long time, Ankh is her first on the site and it’s one I happily “rediscovered” in my archives.

Beryl writes,

I live in a western suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. I retired in 2015 after more than 40 years in the chemical industry.

I knew I wanted to be involved in some sort of art, but nothing resonated until I took a Zentangle® class at my local library. Since then, I have been haunting your site for patterns and inspiration.

When I saw Indrani Novello’s pattern Amun, I immediately thought of doing a pattern based on the ankh, to complete the name of the pharaoh. (I also saw my first exhibit of items from Tutanhkamun’s tomb when I was 12.)

In this tile there are little floating items which are based on two T shapes, as well as Ankh and Amun. Therefore this might be considered a Zentangle cartouche of the king’s name: 2T-Ankh-Amun.

Clever cartouche!

Beryl illustrates the easy step-by-step instructions for drawing Ankh below.

This is very cool. I bought an ‘Ankh’ ring when I visited Egypt several years ago. What an experience! I also took a workshop in Hieroglyphics last spring. It was so interesting. I have a cartouche as well and was thrilled when an Egyptian gentleman actually read it and addressed me by my name! Thanks for this new pattern, I can’t wait to try it!

  • Funny and easy tangle to draw, thanks for sharing with us!
