A week ago today we had QuaSahnt and today we have Momo, both inspired by crescent-shaped food.
Momo is from Redmond WA CZT Veena Arun who notes that Momo is “not the dumpling but a new tangle inspired by the dumpling.” Momo is Veena’s third tangle on the site.
Dumpling? According to Wikipedia,
“Momo is a type of South Asian dumpling; native to Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, North Indian region of Ladakh, Northeast Indian regions of Sikkim, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh, and Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. It is similar to Chinese baozi and jiaozi, Mongolian buuz, Japanese gyoza and Korean mandu, but heavily influenced by cuisine of the Indian subcontinent with Indian spices and herbs.
… There are typically two types of momo, steamed and fried. Momo is usually served with a dipping sauce.”
This image of momo is from the Wikipedia page and don’t they look just like Purk dumplings?
Veena’s Momo is very versatile, it can been used in a free-form version with dumplings scattered around your tile, or as I’ve done, it can be used in a ribbon-style tangle.
Veena illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Momo here on her blog where she shows several ways of using Momo in your Zentangle® art including a lovely grid-based version. Veena’s tiles include several Zentangle-original tangles you will no doubt recognize.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share!

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. TIP: tangles never start with pencil planning.

As I drew this one, I in corporate the spirals in the initial drawing, not being proficient at getting them right as “add-ons;” in the process of drawing the second one, I had to laugh because I saw kidney beans with curls coming out of my pen 🙂
This looks like a fun one! I think these food-inspired tangles are wonderful. 🙂 I appreciate the variations you suggest and show ~ looking forward to drawing this one!
I like this funny new tangle! Thanks for sharing.
Love all your samples of the endless possibilities! Looks like a great tangle to spend an afternoon with. Thank you!
