How to draw GRASSROOTS

I was looking through my “archives” for something both simple to do as well as being just a little different and remembered Australian CZT Lianne Woods’s Grassroots tangle.

Grassroots is based on a dot-grid and it’s another one of those tangles that provides a blank slate for embellishment. One of the first tangles on the site based on this same type of dot-grid was JJ LaBarbera’s Huggy Bear and there have been several more since.

Lianne writes,

Grassroots is a very simple tangle using the basic elements of the .  and ( . This tangle also uses a dot grid as its base.

This very simple tangle can be used as is.

Also, as I was playing with it I kept thinking of it as the foundation to many, many tangleations. So in naming this tangle pattern I looked for a word that meant foundation and came up with Grassroots.

Fills, shading, color … there are so many possibilities for Grassroots that I’m still contemplating how I want to proceed further with my example. For now I’ve left it pretty basic, but I’m not done yet!

Lianne illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Grassroots here on her blog where she shows various ways to use it in three beautiful Zentangle® tiles. So many possibilities. And it’s simply composed of two of the elemental strokes of a tangle  in the Zentangle Method™.

As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share!

Check out the tag liannew for more of Lianne’s tangles on TanglePatterns.com.

Did it slip your mind?

On the first of this month I wrote “I have a favor to ask you” but my message may have gotten lost in the lingering haze of elections and the Thanksgiving holiday for many of you.

Thus, a gentle reminder as the month slips away …

“When you compare the value you get from TanglePatterns for a whole year of new creative content week in and week out to the cost of a single workshop or a book or a magazine subscription, I would like to believe you agree this resource is worth at least that much to you.

So will you help me keep TanglePatterns online for another year?”

It only takes you a minute. Your financial support makes a huge difference and it’s greatly appreciated.

Again, my heartfelt thanks to those of you — the Grassroots — who have already generously responded. It goes without saying that am grateful for your contributions of support to keep this unique Zentangle resource going.
