Happy Birthday, USA — 242 years young … What a perfect tangle we have for today’s July 4th Independence Day celebrations.
The lovely Liberty Fan is from Australia/California CZT Connie Green and it’s her first tangle on the site.
I’ve really been enjoying dot grid tangles recently. So many possibilities on such a simple framework.
Liberty Fan is another interesting Cadent variation/tangleation, based on Zentangle® co-founder Maria Thomas’s original triangle version she includes in her steps.
In this case Connie notes that her inspiration “is based on a fabric pattern found in the Liberty store, based in England.”
I’m originally from Adelaide, Australia, and have lived in California for the last 20 years. My background is high-tech, and I found Zentangle accidentally.
Practicing Zentangle has been a portal, allowing me to access creativity I didn’t think I had! The Zentangle Method™ is also a wonderful addition to my mindfulness practice.
Since being certified, I see patterns everywhere, and Liberty’s in London is a veritable cornucopia!
I hope you enjoy drawing Liberty Fan as much as I do.
Connie illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Liberty Fan below and she features it in a beautiful monotangle with lovely shading that almost makes it appear embossed. Connie posted her steps with some variations here on her blog where you can also see the fabric that inspired Connie’s Liberty Fan tangle.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share!

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." So pretty. Such a fun tangleation on Cadent…
Hi, love the Liberty Fan tangle. After it has been shaded, it looks like a tufted pillow. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful tangle.
Connie I really like your LIBERTY FAN. I do my tangling in the evening and will be enjoying your tangle pattern tonight! Thank you for sharing. Nancy
This looks like an embroidery or beading pattern. Cool.
