Today’s Scarrow tangle is another cool one from Taiwan CZT Damy Teng. Prior to today Damy has 24 tangles on the site, Scarrow makes 25!
She points out that Scarrow is composed of an S stroke and a curve or C stroke, two of Zentangle’s five elemental strokes.
By ‘elemental strokes’ we mean a dot, a straight(-ish) line, a curve (like a parenthesis), a reverse curve (like an ‘S’), and an orb or circle.” ~ Zentangle Blog
Damy writes that her inspiration for this tangle …
“comes from a painted glass work, but I have forgotten where it came from. It is like four leaves or like four arrows, and finally I chose the arrow, so the tangle is named Scarrow.”
Damy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Scarrow below and shows two ways to add graphite for different effects.
Here Damy illustrates some variations based on using a reticula (grid) from page 123 of the Zentangle PRIMER Vol 1, reticula # R-D-1.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

I love this tangle. It is a bit challenging, but not overwhelming, and truly beautiful.
Thank you for sharing it, Damy, and thank you for posting it, Linda!!
I like this pattern I like the step out Thank you!
uncomplicated but very nice new pattern. I do like it very much, thank you for sharing!
Oh Damy, I had gotten away from tangling and was missing my daily practice of tangling. I love this pattern! What a wonderful welcome back for me! Your step-outs are so clear. I love that reminder that there are no mistakes in Zentangle! Thank you!!
Stunning! I need simple ones myself, I don’t think I could complete this one, lol.
“Anything is possible, one stroke at a time.” 🙂
This is lovely, and not too difficult if you keep turning your tile. Thank you!
Thanks, this is a fun tangle with lots of possibilities.
This wasn’t an easy tangle, initially, but sort of interesting. I am still new at this, so unable to keep up with the consistency of S.and C in each fragment, but I guess with practice I shall improve. Thank you Damy for sharing this beautiful tangle pattern here. 🙂
