Today’s seasonal Autumnal tangle is from Norman OK CZT Daniel Lamothe, who previously shared his Undu tangle with us before becoming a CZT earlier this year.
Daniel describes himself as being “in the tortuous years of ‘teenagerhood’ “, making him a member of the ranks of the younger CZTs in the community.
Autumnal is a tangle Daniel deconstructed last year before he became a CZT. It’s a pretty ribbon-style tangle that’s easy to draw and I’ve embellished the basic tangle a little bit with some aura-ing and solid fills.
Daniel illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Autumnal here on his blog. He demonstrates each step with a separate image, and the final one illustrates the basic “3” stroke used to compose Autumnal.
By using a long sinuous 3, you get both a curved segment on the baseline then a pointed one. The curved portion gets the teardrop shape, the pointed section the small leaf shape that opposes it. Are you still with me? 😉
Daniel describes it this way, “Add some wavy lines, with a corner every other time you meet the central line. I like to think of this as drawing a bunch of really fat Ms.” His M’s = my 3’s.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.
And welcome to the wonderful season of Autumn!

Oooo, I love this one! At first glance, Linda’s version reminded me immediately of Zenith, but when I clicked through to Daniel’s website, my first impression was immediately dispelled. Thanks for sharing this one! It’s calling to me … 🙂
Lovely tangle from Daniel, who is quite a prolific tangler. One of his designs, Dreamcatcher, is the subject of this weeks “I Am the Diva” challenge. Dreamcatcher is another great tangle, and, fortunately, easier than it looks. Kudoes to Daniel for all his tangling. Thanks for posting this one, Linda, it looks like it will be fun.
Daniel, you are amazing. So glad you are tangling and sharing!
Wow – I’d almost forgotten about this one entirely and certainly wasn’t expecting to see it show up here! Thanks so much for including it on your wonderful site!
Hey Daniel,
I found this on your blog a month or so ago…a keeper for sure. Hope you are well and looking forward to more of your amazing work.
Jody (CZT24… :o)
Nice tangle Daniel. I put it in my book…
