STORIES: How Zentangle changes lives“I must tell you that ‘tangling’ has literally changed my life.

I am manic depressive and bipolar. Though medications keep these maladies controlled, I had lost my interest and drive to create. (And my college degree is in fine art!) After discovering the Zentangle Method I look forward to ‘my time to tangle’ every day. I love trying the patterns found on your website.

My daughter who is in art school in Savannah, Georgia and my husband both see a remarkable difference in my demeanor and outlook. They don’t even roll their eyes when I tell them that I spent the day doodling, tangling, drawing and painting!

I own a somewhat upscale yarn shop with jewelry making/beading on the second floor.  My employees have remarked numerous times that I seem so happy and calm!

I feel better than I have in years all because of tangling daily and having such a helpful and inspirational resource – your website.

Thank you for (unknowingly) being my lighthouse in the fog.”

I, too, have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder as well as crippling anxiety. Last September I admitted myself to the psych ward, because I was not coping and needed a safe place to be. I spent ten days in the psych unit. The one good thing about being in the hospital was the availability of craft materials. After I got out of the hospital I still felt very broken and vulnerable. Through Pinterest I discovered Zentangle, and for me, Zentangle is my meditation. I am not able to meditate or engage in any other kind of spiritual practice, but I can draw. That creative outlet enabled me to get through the rest of my semester at university. Now I like to draw listening to relaxing music on youtube, and when I am tangling, everything else is tuned out. I am finally able to focus on one thing rather than flitting from one activity to another. Zentangle has been such a healing experience for me.

I have been without a computer or my kindle for more than a year now. I’m just learning how to use an iPad Pro. It is wonderful that you are able to use Zentangle as a focusing tool. It sounds like it has opened many other doors for you as well. Continue on that path to healing. You should remind yourself that you can’t make a mistake and it is “one stroke at a time.” My best to you and hope your path continues to be always forward. Jane Ellen
