Today’s lovely tangle, Kollide, is by CZT Kim Winebrenner and it’s her first on the site.
Kim is from Cuyahoga Falls, OH and she’s a member of the 11th CZT class.
“I first ‘discovered’ Kollide in its circular variation, then later stretched it out to a line. The circular version I was playing with reminded me of a kaleidoscope, hence the name Kollide.
When I am not tangling, I am at my first teaching job; I am a literature professor at Kent State University. I love teaching literature, but teaching Zentangle is a very special treat too–and there are no papers to grade! Seriously though, one of the best parts of being a teacher (either of literature or Zentangle) is watching a student gain a sense of satisfaction, confidence, and pride in her/his newly found abilities.“
Kollide is a pretty ribbon or border-type tangle which has an interesting Phicops-like element in it (Step 5).
I found Kollide can get out of whack if the zigzag element in Step 3 isn’t positioned and spaced evenly. I solved this by putting a tiny ink dot to aim for and that helped me get the peaks exactly where I wanted.
Kim illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Kollide here and features it in a Kollide monotangle showing a circular variation of her tangle. Kim provides the steps for the circular version below.
Here Kim illustrates two variations of Kollide the first of which uses the sparkle tangle enhancer.

I USED THIS I LOVE IT!
Oh! How nice! This one’s different in that not all tangles can be converted into a circle design. So pretty! Joy and Happiness to You, Tracy
Once in a while I see a tangle and I just shout “This is for me!” That is what happened when I viewed Kollide. Thank you so much. I know I am going to enjoy adding this to my pieces.
Love your thinking Kim. Another of those designs that is a joy to use without having to work out how to do the thing.
I?m going to use it. Thank you. It’s so nice ! ????
I like this one but my first attempts were not good. Any tips for spacing?
This is so steam punky!~ Love it!
Oh my goodness…I do love this tangle! I really love the variations! So many possibilities. Thank you for sharing your talent.
