How to draw PINBAWL

Zentangle pattern: PinBawlToday’s cool “ribbon” tangle, PinBawl, is by Salt Lake City UT tangler David Hunter and it’s his first on the site.

Together with HeidiSue Whitney, David runs the Intermountain Tanglers group which meets monthly. You can read more about their group on HeidiSue’s Hitched.

David writes,

I was introduced to the Zentangle© art form in April of last year, and have been tangling and exploring new patterns ever since. Not one day has passed without tangling and practicing patterns in my Sketchbooks and on Tiles.

Next month I will be attending a CZT training seminar with Rick Roberts and Marie Thomas, in Providence, RI. That should expand my horizons by at least 10,000 percent.

CZT#18 begins in about 5 weeks (April 12-15) and I’m sure everyone who has signed up is growing more excited as it “draws” closer. As I’ve said before, and I know every CZT will back me up on this, it is without doubt a magical experience.

PinBawl is a very easy tangle to draw. In the TANGLES BY TYPE section in the left sidebar I tag this type of tangle with the term “ribbon” because you can weave them like a ribbon through your Zentangle art. (These can also be called border tangles.) For my example above I’ve placed two rows back to back and added a bit of shading to give some convex dimension to the tangle.

David illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing PinBawl here on his blog and his illustration give two variations to explore. Enjoy!

10,000 % is just the tip of the iceberg AND magical experience needs to be in capital letters and bold.

    David,

I really like this tangle. I included Rick’s Paradox in the triangle areas and put the little circle at the “bottom” of that. A fun tangle and a fun tangleation. Thanks for sharing this one with us.

I just used this tangle again, thanks to Tangle Refresher 130. I still like it. 😀 It’s so hard to remember all the tangles I like and sometimes I forget. I’m glad this one came up again.
