Zentangle pattern: ReflectionsThe lovely, flowing Reflections tangle comes to us from Canadian tangler Cheryl Craver, and it’s her first on the site. Cheryl lives in Victoria, the capital city of the province of British Columbia in Canada’s Pacific Northwest.

Cheryl was inspired by Molly Hollibaugh’s recently-introduced ING tangle pattern.

I started tangling 3 years ago when I tore my meniscus and couldn’t walk. As a lifelong wannabe artist, Zentangle® was a natural fit and I was hooked big time. I consider it a daily part of my self- care program and hardly ever miss a day.  I especially like to construct (never had the nerve to submit one before now!), deconstruct and come up with tangleations.

… The tangleation possibilities for Reflections seem endless  …

Cheryl illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Reflections below, and in a very pretty monotangle Zentangle she shows several possible ways to vary her tangle. For my example of Reflections I used one of Cheryl’s variations.

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. Love this pattern, Cheryl! I can see this fitting into my repertoire quite nicely.

  • Beautiful, flowing pattern that can be a fill or a string–thanks for sharing! As Jeane Cockey says, I will definitely be adding this to my reperatoire.

Love this tangle! So much fun to draw and play with; I just now combined it with “Ing,” and it’s pretty neat how the two of them “play” together 🙂

    Dear Linda,
I am an Australian “beginner tangler” and have just tried Cheryl’s Reflections and I will certainly be using it in the future. It is lovely and fluid, versatile and complex. Reminds me of the centuries old Chinese silk banners. Thank you for a very interesting and encouraging website.

    Hi Linda
I started to Tangle this summer and am keen to develop it further. Do you know if there are any classes in Southern England . I live on the Isle of Wight which is off the South coast of England. I love the site and use it on a regular basis. I love the regular patterns coming through which gives lots of inspiration for new tangles.
    Thank you Margaret

I found this post by going back through old refreshers and “you might also like”. This is a fun, easy tangle perfect for newbies like me and offers opportunity for lots of variations. Cool!

Beautiful tangle for shading – gives a lovely three dimensional ribbon. Thanks!
