How to draw FANDANGO

Zentangle pattern: Fandango. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.A couple of months ago Florida tangler (and future CZT, October 2014) Vicki Bassett shared her very popular Biscus and Showgirl tangle patterns with us.

Today Vicki is back with another winner she’s named Fandango.

Vicki sent the steps along with her lacy Zentangle-Inspired Art (ZIA), explaining,

I almost called it Petticoat but when I went looking for a name inspired by its ‘fan-like’ appearance, I came across the word ‘Fandango’ which happens to be a flirty courtship dance. That was a perfect fit for this one.

Fandango is easy to draw, as tangles should be, however I did find that getting the black ribbon weaving in and out in Step 2 a bit of a challenge to get lined up so it looked right visually. But after a few practice runs I soon figured out the V’s of Step 1 need to be a little deep and then you’ll have space to see where the strokes should be aiming. Try drawing all the top “S”-shaped lines first if you encounter a similar hitch in your gitalong.

Another thing I might point out, drawing a zigzag line in one continuous stroke can be tough. If that’s the case for you too, take it a bit at a time. Just be sure your pen nib comes down very lightly at the “join” when you restart the stroke. These tips are from an amateur, you understand. So if there’s a better way to do it, I’d love to be clued in too!

Here are Vicki’s step-by-step instructions for drawing Fandango and a lovely completed Zentangle® featuring her tangle.
