Tangle Refresher 69

Tangle Refresher! While we’ve been enduring the big deep freeze in this hemisphere for the last few weeks, our Aussie friends are enjoying Summer and this weekend they’re celebrating their national day, Australia Day!

“Celebrated annually on 26 January, which marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Sydney Cove, New South Wales, and raising of the Flag of Great Britain at that site by Governor Arthur Phillip. … It is an official public holiday in every state and territory of Australia, unless it falls on a weekend in which case the following Monday is a public holiday instead. With community festivals, concerts and citizenship ceremonies, the day is celebrated in large and small communities and cities around the nation. Australia Day has become the biggest annual civic event in Australia.” – from Wikipedia

This year The Sydney Morning Herald “asked 12 leading artists for their artistic vision of our national identity …

From Sydney to Roma, from Canberra to the Kimberley we can look through the eyes of the 12 artists represented on this page and share what it means to be Australian. In choosing this year’s theme, ‘Australian Wonder’ we hoped to encapsulate the spirit of this nation as a place but also allow each artist the freedom to express their individual response to this country’s astonishing diversity. Australian Wonder is a collection of our artists’ very distinct visions and of how they understand and picture our national character.”

My favorite? While I very much love the featured artist Tim Storrier’s majestic evening landscape Evening Blaze Line, my personal tastes run to Michael Johnson’s Aurora Australis. Be sure to watch the video, I think you’ll enjoy it and you’ll understand the background of Storrier’s landscape too.

Wishing all our Aussie CZTs and tanglers all the best for a beautiful celebratory weekend and great feasting! PS – Want to know what an Australia Day feast looks like? Check it out here. OMG. Please pass the Dipped Prawns 🙂
