Ah, life returns to “normal” and here we are, back again with our first tangle pattern of 2014.
I trust you all enjoyed a beautiful holiday season and are looking forward to our ongoing Zentangle® adventures and whatever opportunities you make for yourself this year. I sure am!
Robert and I had a wonderful time with my two visiting clan members, we just simply relaxed and enjoyed a low-key holiday. And played quite a few hands of Kings in the Corner. But rest assured it wasn’t long before I was working away on my TanglePatterns.com TANGLE GUIDE, 2014 Edition and barring unforeseen circumstances I’m expecting to have it ready towards the end of this week, carpal tunnel be danged. I will let you know when we’re a go!
With the thought in mind that we have a lot of excited new tanglers joining us — and we warmly welcome you all — I wanted to start this week with an easy but effective tangle. Wheelz by Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, CZT Joyce Block is just the ticket.
As with many tangles, Wheelz might appear to be difficult but if you take it slowly, just one deliberate stroke at a time, it’s really a fun one to play with. You can make it grow to fill any size section in your Zentangle tile and you can also use it as a border pattern. If my strokes look a little sketchy it was because I was using a scratchy old Micron that to me seems to add some character and makes it very hard to part with.
Joyce illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Wheelz here on her blog. Joyce used the new “CZT-only” form which was introduced at CZT XIII and the form includes space for examples of Wheelz in a sample Zentangle. Be sure to click on the image to get the larger version which is a little easier on the eyes.

Hi Linda,
What is the best way to print this? I downloaded it to my computer and I have tried printing just from the download and opening it with several different programs and it comes out so pixelated that I cannot see the strokes. Most of the time when I print it is very legible. Thank you for your advice.
Hi Sunni, I’m not sure. Did you download the large version? Maybe someone else can help, but if all else fails you can draw the steps yourself 🙂
Sunni, I “print” the picture to Adobe .pdf and once the system creates the .pdf, I then print the .pdf. Works every time!
I was able to print it by clicking on the photo on Joyce’s blog to enlarge it. Then I right-clicked on the enlarged photo and clicked copy from the pop-up menu. I then opened a Word document, right-clicked on the page and selected paste to put it on the document and printed it.

WHEELZ is a tangle that once you begin,it is fun & challenge to see how many directions you can go. Plus,WHEELZ invites trying variations to some degree. This design is addicting in a good way.

Dear Joyce, “Wheelz” is a new one for me. It’s so versatile and engrossing! It never ceases to amaze me how generous and creative the family of Zentangle practitioners are. Even though it was awhile ago, I thank you for sharing! I have embarked on a project for 2021 of learning a new tangle a day.
