Plates comes to us from Aussie tangler Zoe Brener of Melbourne, Australia, and it’s her first tangle pattern on the site.
The New York Times travel section has this to say about Melbourne, “The fact that Melbourne, the capital of the Australian state of Victoria, regularly appears near the top of lists ranking the world’s most livable cities says a lot about its efficiency, cleanliness and safety. What that recognition doesn’t immediately reveal is how Melbourne is now arguably the most exciting city for food Down Under … . But even more noteworthy is the city’s distinctive creative energy, manifested everywhere, from flourishing street art and a cool bar scene to homegrown boutiques and buzzing back-street cafes. When even cosmopolitan Sydney talks of ‘Melbournising,’ it’s clear that something special is happening in Oz’s second city.”
Like so many Aussie tanglers, Zoe aspires to become a CZT one day and join the swelling ranks of certified teachers down under. Many Australians are making the pilgrimage to Providence RI for the wonderful, unique experience of attending the Certified Zentangle Teacher training.
Zoe writes, “I was having dinner at my parents’ and saw something like this on a plate.” Her Plates tangle starts with a dot grid, connected with cross strokes, then either loops or scallop shapes added in where the intersecting strokes meet. Simple, with lots of opportunity to play and embellish.
Zoe illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Plates here on her blog, and shows several ways to vary the tangle. I’ve also added the instructions below in an enlarged version for those of us who might be sight-challenged (that’s me too!). Remember that you can also hold down the Control button in Windows and use your mouse wheel to enlarge (or reduce) images to help you see the all-important detail.

Congratulations Zoe on your pattern. Great to see another Aussie tangled.
Regards, Lyndel from Tassie.
This is a pretty pattern and fun to do. Thank you for sharing!
Fun! Also like a wallpaper I’ve seen.
Nice tangle. And three cheers, Linda, for the large-type version of the tangle. I’m not supposed to need it after the cataract surgery, but my eyes haven’t got the memo yet.
