Video of 7 official tangle patterns

This post contains a videoOften it’s helpful to watch someone drawing a tangle pattern for you to get a feel for how to do it yourself. Many of us are just “wired” that way, as my husband would say. (And another good reason to take a class from a CZT®.)

In this video taped at July’s Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) trade show meetings in Chicago, CZT® Sue Jacobs demonstrates 7 official tangles. First Sue traces around circular metal tags to create a string on a sketchbook page, then she fills each section of the string with a tangle. This is the order of the demonstration:

  1. Keeko
  2. Bales – one of the most versatile (tangleationable?) tangles there is
  3. Echoism – bonus! There haven’t been online instructions for this one until now.
  4. ‘Nzeppel – think Led Zepplin (yeah)
  5. Ahh
  6. Jetties, and
  7. Meer.

I will warn you this 10-minute video doesn’t start out great but hang in there with it until about 1:45 when the camera zooms in so you can see Sue drawing the patterns, and the sound improves so you can hear what she’s saying. Enjoy, and learn!

Great video! I’d love to make Zentangle jewellery!

  • Joy

Great video. Such a nice lady. Would like to get the book.

  • Dianne

They certainly look impressive don’t they!
Echoism can’t be a new one though as I have been drawing this in my tangles for a while now (last used it on 28 Aug 2011)But then I have done tangles of my own only to discover that there is something similar out there.

I think you misread this a little Dianne, it’s not that Echosim is a new pattern but that now there are online instructions for it. It’s one of the core original 102 official tangles of the CZT training. Echoism has been in the TanglePatterns header images since July 2010 and that may well be where you saw it before. Glad you like it, and use it!

When I was young and learning how to write, we would do this pattern as a warm up…And I still do this excersise.

  • Echosim….I can’t seem to download this tangle…..

PS. I want to tangle on a leather pocketbook. Do I need to spray it with a sealer once I am finished?

    Thank you,Dale

  • Annette

It helps so much to see the design draw the first time! I leave in the Four Corners area does anyone know where the closest class would be to me?

  • Diane

I’m new to this …. just discovered it! Ordered my pens….should get them by the end of the week … anyway, what kind of coloring pens did she say to use to make the colored Zentangles?
    😀
