How to draw JOBOWTIE

I already have my tree up, major accomplishment!

We start and end the “memorable” month of November with tangles from YuRu Chen.

Her new Jobowtie tangle makes me think of festive gift wrapping and I’m sure it could be applied decoratively to seasonal cards or gift tags or place cards you might be making.

YuRu writes, “The inspiration for this pattern is a cosmetic bag I made many years ago.” She was going through some old digital photos and came across this which prompted her to deconstruct the steps for drawing Jobowtie.

The cosmetic bag which inspired YuRu's tangle.

YuRu’s cosmetic bag which inspired her tangle.

Although my Jobowtie example is in traditional Zentangle® black-and-white, as you see from YuRu’s cosmetic bag it lends itself to your colorful or glittery imagination too.

YuRu illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Jobowtie with a variation I love (Box 6) featuring the Zentangle-enhancer rounding, and a monotangle with yet another variation of her quilted bow-ties translated into a tangle. Lovely subtle shading examples both here and below in her second tile.

Here YuRu has created another beautiful monotangle featuring Jobowtie on a Renaissance Tan tile.

Like some help with shading your Zentangles?

It's fun and easy — forget about traditional "art rules" for shading, this is Zentangle and those rules do not apply!

As we are coached in the chapter on Shading in the Zentangle PRIMER Vol 1, "Ignore the light source ... in Zentangle shading we do not consider the type or direction of the light source. ... More often, shading is a component of the tangle itself that we use to play with dimension, emphasis, and contrast."

Everything you need to know is here in two free tutorials on TanglePatterns.
