Today Ohio tangler Judy Okawa shares her “light and airy” Infinity tangle with us. You may recall Judy shared a beautiful String concept with us recently based on the Japanese art of kintsugy, however Infinity is her first tangle on the site.
Many, many variations can be composed from the basic Zentangle®-original Cadent, however this tangle is unique enough to be worthy of addition to the site.
Judy introduces herself and explains how her tangle and its name came about,
I’m from a small town in the Cleveland area – I first came across Zentangle back in 2011, and took a class with a local CZT, but then got busy with other things…. However, a couple years later I was waiting for some medical test results, and I remembered Zentangle, and thought that it might be a good way to relax while I waited – It was, and I’ve been doing it ever since – I find it really is like a type of meditation – very relaxing….
One evening I was in the mood to draw something light and airy, and this is what developed – (The first tile is my initial version, when I was playing around with the idea – ) In looking at the tiles later, the crossing strands reminded me at first of the double helix of DNA, and then of the infinity symbol (hence the name), although I wasn’t thinking of either of those at the time….
This could be drawn with wider ribbons, or with three strands (as in #5 and #6), or a few strands could ‘escape’ to join up with something else…. (Note that in Step 3 you ‘draw behind’, like in Hollibaugh – )
Judy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Infinity below and features it in two monotangles. Notice the clever way she “turns the corner” at the bottom left of the tile on the right, without disrupting the flow of the tangle .
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

Oh, this looks so cool. Looking forward to trying it out!
Judy, what an absolutely amazing pattern, thank you for sharing it.
Linda, thank you for posting it, and for all the work you put into this site.
This is lovely and I look forward to trying it!
Beautiful. Looking forward to trying it soon.
I love this one so much, can’t wait to try it out.
Judy, I look forward to trying your tangle!
I love this tangle. And it’s much easier than it looks. I can see so many possibilities for filling with other tangles. 🙂 Thanks for sharing this one with us.
This is so much fun! Thanks for sharing! I tried for 6 hours to do a Celtic knot, unsuccessfully. Think I’ll stay with Infinity.
Interesting and lots of combos possible. Thanks.
Thanks, everyone, for your comments!
Would love to see what you do with Infinity….
Oh! I love this pattern–not sure how I missed it when it was first posted on Tanglepatterns.com! Looking forward to playing with this! Thanks for sharing.
Love it. Many thanks for sharing and keep up the good work.
Took me awhile to try it… But I’m hooked! Love it!
I really like this one. It is dainty and easy to draw. I have used it as a border and to fill in. Thanks for sharing.
SUPERBE ++++++++++++
I love this and see many possibilities. The bigger picture to the left reminds me of Christmas lights and I may use it for next year’s Christmas card.
OH love this tangle, Infinity. The possibilities are winding and rewinding on my tile, no end in sight. Thank you!
I am looking for a pattern I saw at the top of this website. It’s called ocean spray. It caught my eye one day and I went to look for the step under O and it’s not there. Where else could it be? Can anybody help me. I don’t remember what the pattern looked like, but I know I saw it.
Hi Sandra, you can find it (and any tangle you’re looking for) by typing the name in the search box in the upper right side of any page on the site. Hope that helps! Happy New Year …
Hey Linda, I did that and it didn’t help. I’m still at a loss.
Sandra
When you take a moment to read the description of the post resulting from your search, it’s right there looking at you 🙂
I found it.
Thank you Linda
Such a nice, clean Tangle! So useful. I love doing it over painted “ribbons” of watercolor. Mary D’Angelo aka ZenCitiZen
Thanks for your feedback about Infinity – I like your idea about doing it with color – I’ve been using more color recently, but hadn’t thought to try it with Infinity – Thanks for the idea!
