How to draw E’RUTATS

Zentangle pattern: E'rutats. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Today’s lovely ribbon or border-style tangle E’rutats comes to us from Missouri tangler Elaine Hudson and it’s her first on the site.

Elaine tells us a little about herself and explains where her inspiration for E’rutats came from,

My sister and I have been tangling for over a year. She lives in Florida and I live in Missouri, near Kansas City. We are constantly emailing our creations back and forth …  We are hooked!

E’rutats was inspired by Sandy Bartholmew’s Stature, so the name is stature spelled backwards. However, I think you’ll agree that it doesn’t end up looking anything like Stature.

I put the emphasis on the first syllable, E, because my first name is Elaine.

I’ve included several variations and a tile using E’rutats in a very basic form with pearls, a half E’rutats and a full one. There are curliques, tipple and stipple added.

Sandy Bartholomew’s Stature pattern is included in her second book, Yoga for Your Brain™, the title of her book and a phrase Sandy has trademarked. You can read more about the book by visiting the BOOK REVIEWS tab at the top of the page and looking for the title.

E’rutats is very easy to draw and embellish to achieve different results. If you find the wavy lines a bit of challenge to create evenly, try turning your Zentangle® tile sideways and think about drawing a shallow or stretched S-stroke followed by a shallow “reverse-S” stroke. As always in the Zentangle Method, take your time and be deliberate with your strokes.

Elaine illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing E’rutats below and shows several variations. A “half E’rutats” is an interesting way to use any ribbon or border tangle.
