Today’s Wevo tangle is another excellent contribution by Canadian tangler Cyndi Knapp.
Cyndi writes,
This super easy pattern evolved while tangling. It shares DNA with Keeko so it’s just as versatile — working well in a grid or ribbon and great for backgrounds, fill or borders.
The name has no particular significance other than it reflects the nature of the pattern.
I’m going to sound like a broken record here but I do find if I tangle grid patterns very methodically, interesting patterns can often appear before the tangle is completed. On the right is Wevo before adding the cross strokes. It looks even more like a woven ribbon, kind of like Huggins.
Cyndi illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Wevo below where her Zendala features Wevo in the center and around the edge as a frame with “Azteka (v) and chevrons which ended up resembling Facets by the time I got to the centre of this segment.”

Cyndi – I alway look forward to fun things coming from your creative mind.
I don’t know if this was intended or not but when I looked at your original step out for Wevo, I detected an optical illusion. All the short lines are the same length on a square reticula no matter if they are vertical or horizontal. However, to my eye, I had to double check myself to be sure. Making one set of lines longer is an interesting tangleation over a rectangular reticula but then I no longer see the illusion.
Of course, if the tangle is adapted to a circle or spiral, this illusion does not hold together.

Altho unintentional, Wevo holds a certain optical illusion for me too…
In both the Eeric encapsulated illustration and the ZIA border, the sections with longer horizontal lines and shorter vertical lines seem wider overall than the reverse sections, yet all the sections are the same size. It’s all in the eye of the beholder and the beauty of Zentangle!
Oh Wevo is a true delight to explore! I adore patterns like this that have a woven aspect, and I can spend hours getting lost in laying down line after line. Another wonderful tangle to add to my playlist <3
And as the creator of Eeric, it made me so happy seeing it appear on such a gorgeous tile!
