Here’s a sweet, very simple tangle to spark your creative juices and get your week started off on a fun note.
Clove is by tangler Faith Cohen who writes, “I call it ‘Clove’ for its vague resemblance to the elusive four-leaf clover.” She was inspired by a Marimekko-inspired bath towel.
From Wikipedia: “Marimekko is a Finnish company based in Helsinki that has made important contributions to fashion, especially in the 1960s. … It is particularly noted for brightly colored printed fabrics and simple styles, used both in women’s garments and in home furnishings. Two designers in particular, Vuokko Nurmesniemi with bold stripes, and Maija Isola with large simple flowered prints, created hundreds of distinctive patterns and helped to make Marimekko a household name across the world.” The late Maija Isola designed the iconic Unikko (poppy) print pattern in 1964 and it’s still widely used on Marimekko products today.
Faith writes,
“I was drawn to the simple flower shapes, and decided to try my hand at my very own tangle. The simplicity, coupled with the vast room for tangelations (several of which I have attempted to show below) make it an ideal addition to the tangle vocabulary.“
Faith illustrates the steps for drawing Clove below together with a Zentangle® demonstrating some variations to try.

I love Clove, It’s so simple and fun to do. I’ve already used it, and can see it become a staple for fillers and/or backgrounds.
