How to draw CALIX

Zentangle pattern: Calix. © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. Republishing or redistributing IN ANY FORM including pinning is prohibited under law without express permission.Today’s grid-based tangle, Calix, is from Canadian tangler Judy Murphy who has eight other tangles on the site, the most recent being her fun Wiffles tangle.

Judy sent me Calix almost exactly a year ago to the day and I came across it again recently while doing my periodic review of my archives of pattern submissions.

Calix has kind of a snowflake quality to it, and since snow is very familiar this time of year in northern parts of the planet (including Whitby, Ontario where Judy’s located) it seemed like a timely tangle.

For my example of Calix I stopped at Step 4 because I thought the small scale wouldn’t allow room for the last step. With or without Step 5, Calix is lovely.

Here are Judy’s step-by-step instructions for drawing Calix and a cool ZIA drawing featuring her tangle.

This pattern looks like a keeper to me, as I can see it in “my mind’s eye” playing with some of my own patterns. Thanks Judy for sharing!
Also thanks Linda for all the work and time you’ve once again put in with the 2016 Tangle Guide!
Grab it everyone, it’s invaluable, both in PDF form or printed out (which I do as I am a “belts and braces” person!) it definitely comes in handy almost every day for me!

I like this one because it has curved lines in it – and I am partial to a curve or two! I also like the two rows of pink and purple hearts in the tile below it. Thanks Judy, and I also enjoyed looking at the photos of Whitby, Ontario, where you live!
