How to draw STARAWN

This spritely little tangle pattern, Zentangle pattern: StarwanStarawn is from self-proclaimed “tangle addict” Judy Murphy. Hmm, I think most of us are members of that club. Judy hails from Whitby, Ontario – another community just east of Toronto – and this is her first tangle on the site.

Starawn is simple and fun to draw – it gives you lots of opportunity to practice the deliberate strokes we learned about last week in this tutorial.

Judy writes,

I think that tangling is one of the most enjoyable past times there is , the reason being,  picking it up,  putting it down and picking it back up again make it such an easy art form to enjoy. The stresses of the day just disappear and I find myself lost in the fun of the details.

Starawn starts with a Printemps-like spiral in the middle then you add auras on four “sides” of the spiral and additional auras between the initial four. Judy also shows Starwan using a solid dot or other shapes such as a triangle as the center starting point. Add a touch of shading to give it a little pop.

Here are Judy’s step-by-step instructions and her monotangle Zentangle® featuring her Starawn tangle pattern.
