How to draw NEURON

Zentangle pattern: NeuronHere’s a fun, interesting and easy tangle pattern for you to start off the week. Beth Snoderly’s Neuron might also be a good candidate for tangling the margins of meeting notes as you don’t really need steps to refer to. Did you know that tangling during meetings (or during school classes) is a great way to pay attention? Seriously.

Beth writes that the inspiration for Neuron came from a candle holder with “a mosaic-like pattern. I added the ‘beads’ for interest.” Beth recently shared her Waft tangle with us.

Neuron starts out like Cracked with simple crisscrossing curved and straight lines and then you randomly add fills and beads, either with your Micron or your shading pencil. The Zen in this tangle comes in allowing your intuition to guide you in placing the fills (solid or otherwise) and beads. Beth suggests you can also vary the shape of the “beads” you add to this tangle.

Here are Beth’s step-by-step instructions for drawing Neuron and a completed monotangle Zentangle® featuring this tangle.
