How to draw PUFFLE

Zentangle pattern: PuffleFirst there was Cruffle, now there is Puffle - both by CZT® Sandy Hunter. I thought Puffle was a great tangle pattern to share entering into a weekend.

And that’s because Sandy has not only come up with another fun tangle pattern but when you visit her instructions for Puffle you’ll also see her inspiring creations from the exercise of combining two different tangles. Another Sandy, CZT® Sandy Steen Bartholomew, first suggests this exercise in her book Totally Tangled. The way you achieve it is by drawing one tangle a little larger than usual then filling it with another tangle. Rarely does this produce a new tangle but in this case it inspired Puffle.

Sandy Hunter’s Tangle Remix shows 10 different combinations of tangles, the tenth being the two she used in creating Puffle. I’ll leave all the surprises to her, I know you’re really going to enjoy her post. Puffle and Sandy’s Tangle Remix examples could keep you busy all weekend!

Puffle took a few practice runs for me to get the inner loops well spaced but Sandy gives lots of tips for getting it right including throwing in an extra “lobe” or two on the outer line if things get a little wonky.

Sandy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Puffle here on her blog and responded to requests for additional combinations. Have fun this weekend! (And see you again tomorrow for another new String.)
