How to draw CROON

Zentangle pattern: CroonThis simply fun tangle is from CZT® Margaret Bremner who writes, “This idea popped into my head one morning: circles with a crescent moon shape on one side and the non-moon shape filled with something and a black background. Since there is already tangle called Crescent Moon (one of my favorites) I mashed the words together and came up with Croon.”

By comparing Margaret’s description of what Croon looks like with my example, you can see that what I drew is a variation. I opted to make the crescent moons solid and leave the background white, then I added a wee touch of shading. One of the fun parts of drawing this tangle is figuring out the directions you want your Croons to face, if you get my drift.

If you use Margaret’s black background, this might be a good place to get out the Sakura Pigma Graphic 1. It covers large areas quickly but you have to be aware the tip is big (1.0 mm) compared to the usual Sakura Micron 01 (0.25 mm), and the ink must be given time to dry or it will smudge.

Margaret illustrates the steps for drawing Croon, here. Margaret also shows a “seed pod” variation and two cool Zentangles featuring Croon.

For the US tanglers, here’s wishing you a relaxing long weekend with gatherings of family and friends. As we enjoy this traditional “kick-off the summer” weekend in our own ways, let us honor and remember all those who have gone before us and pay tribute to the heroes who paid for our freedom.

Happy Memorial Day, my friends.
