How to draw STRUZZLE

Zentangle pattern: StruzzleStripes plus puzzle pieces gives you the tangle pattern Struzzle, created by New Zealand’s Jo Newsham, aka “Jo in NZ” on flickr. Jo is very fond of mandalas as well as Zentangles. Check out her drawings on this page inspired by iron work she saw in a magazine, inspired indeed! Quilters and fabric artists may also know Jo from her “Functional Fiber” shop on etsy. Talented lady.

I bet you wouldn’t guess this tangle pattern is based on a grid, and you know how much I love those grids. This one is lightly penciled first and then you go from there. Struzzle is a fun filler pattern to draw as you get into quite a rhythm drawing those puzzle shapes. A couple of variations I can think of include changing the stripes for solid fills, and adding shading for additional depth.

Jo illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Struzzle, here.

Check out the tag nzjo for more of Jo’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.
