How to draw HALF ONIONS

Zentangle pattern: Half OnionsIt’s interesting to see how quickly you recognize a particular person’s drawing style, and Livia Chua’s is very distinctive with its precision and whimsical quality, both in design and in pattern naming. Half Onions is one of Livia’s creations, however this is my drawing and definitely not as precise as Livia’s. (I blame an old thumb-sprain, it causes hiccups on curved lines.)

Livia notes that Half Onions starts out like Japonica but takes off from there. Both patterns have loads of possibilities for variation and make great border designs or fillers.

Livia, aka skinnystraycat, illustrates how to draw Half Onions, here. In the example she shows on the same page, Half Onions forms what almost looks like a beaded string. Nice!
