In July of 2008, Zentangle® co-founders Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas announced that planning was underway for the first Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT®) training seminar.
CZT Seminars 1 through 6 took place from 2009-2011 near Rick and Maria’s home in Whitinsville, Massachusetts, at the Oakhurst Retreat and Conference Center.
On April 14, 2011, after learning “as of August, 2011, the Worcester Diocese will close Oakhurst Retreat Center“, Zentangle announced a change of venue for the certification program to the Hotel Providence in Providence, Rhode Island. The first seminar held there was CZT 7 and the training seminars continued to be held there until CZT25 in June 2016.
On July 29, 2016, Zentangle co-founders announced CZT-Asia program in Taipei, Taiwan, “an agreement where Certified Zentangle Teacher training seminars will be offered in the Mandarin language in Taiwan beginning this Fall, 2016.”
October 2016: For 2017 beginning with CZT26, Zentangle announced another change of venue for the certification program from the Hotel Providence to the Providence Biltmore Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island USA.
April 2018: Zentangle announces CZT-Asia training seminars will be available in Taipei, Taiwan and in Shanghai, China.
November 2018: Zentangle announces CZT-Europe training seminars will begin in Frankfurt, Germany at the Hotel Monopol beginning May 2019. Rick and Maria will participate in each seminar. “The seminars will be taught in German with a simultaneous English translation available for all who need it. Additional languages are planned – the CZT-Europe seminars are meant for all of Europe!”
July 2020: Zentangle announces that the November CZT36 class will be given as an online event (virtual seminar) due to the disruptions of COVID-19.
