How to draw TULY

Hi everyone, Happy Friday to ya! And this is a long holiday weekend for some of us …

Monday is Thanksgiving Day in Canada while here in the U.S. we have the federal Columbus Day/Indigenous People’s Day holiday.

This weekend is also the 11th anniversary of the start of my CZT#7 certification seminar in Providence, RI – a shout out to all my CZT#7 classmates! Here’s a flash-back photo of the late CZT Sharon Payne’s fabulous tangled high heel sneakers from our gallery of Zentangle®-inspired creations brought to the event by participants. If you look at the class photo (click the picture below, then the link for the large version of the photo), you’ll see Sharon front and center sporting her dazzling footwear. Great memories.

What an amazing journey we’ve all been on together.

Today’s cool woven-tyle Tuly tangle is from Spanish CZT Carmen Muñiz Real and it’s her first on the site.

Carmen tells us a little about herself:

I was born in 1965 between the blue and green of Cantabria (North of Spain) and at the age of 21 years, I came to live in Madrid. Here I finished my studies in history and archeology and specialized in prehistoric art. Always focusing my activities in art, drawing, oil painting, ceramics and crafts in general.

I started teaching in a small studio in Madrid. About 20 years I specialized in using art as a form of therapy and I did a master’s degree in Applied Art Therapy seeking to bring well-being to my students.

In 2017, I was looking for new ways to approach my classes when I met the person I call my very good friend today, CZT María Tovar, she introduced me in the Zentangle Method™.

As soon as the certification was given in the Spanish language, I got the CZT certificate.

Now I have an academy, “Emocionarte academia” where, among other disciplines, I teach Zentangle with love and dedication.

Carmen’s explains her inspiration for Tuly, and its name:

One Sunday I went to visit the National Archaeological Museum in Madrid with a good friend.

We were entertained looking at the Roman mosaics. With impressive borders and geometric figures based on small tesserae [individual tiles used to create a mosaic].

When I get home, I went online to other museums where Roman mosaics can be seen and in “The Roman edifice with mosaic constanza” I found this image:

I liked it so much and it seemed so simple that it quickly became a tangle.

The name was born from my cat who was at the table watching.

Carmen illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Tuly below where she features it in a lovely Zentangle tile with the Zentangle-originals Crescent Moon and Doodah as embellishments and a sweet aura-ed Flux frame.
