Hello friends!
The sweet Illern tangle is from Swiss CZT Annett Ruempler and it’s her eighth tangle on the site.
Annett doesn’t give much info away on her blog so I’ve no idea what inspired this tangle and when I used Google Translate to see if its name meant anything in particular, it came up with ferret in Danish! (And Swedish too, I’m told. Thanks Ninna!) So we’re no further ahead …
Without being disrespectful to this pretty tangle, Illern reminds me of a Hallowe’en motif, wait for it … bats!
Annett illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Illern here on her blog. Illern comes together in a surprising way and rounding (Step 3) makes a big difference to the end result.
For me — ever the random-pattern-challenged person — I found the most intriguing part of tangling Illern is getting an even/satisfactory distribution of the tangle in the space I’m filling. Annett’s ZIA tile example is exemplary! 🙂

More like this: 
It’s probably just me–I’m going to have cataract surgery on both eyes very soon–but I cannot see the weensy details on Annett’s blog site.
It looks like the kind of pattern I really like drawing, too.
I’ll just wait until after November 16, when both eyes will be fully functional once again 🙂
Hi Joyce, I hear ya, I had cataract surgery for both eyes last year but still require glasses for reading/tangling. Remember your browser can enlarge web pages: go to the VIEW menu, then ZOOM, for shortcuts you can use “Ctrl ++” on Windows systems, don’t know what they are on Apple devices but no doubt they’re there. No need to wait!! 🙂
I like this one very much, especially for this time of the year it looks really cool.
How fun doing this one! Once I started, it was easy to keep going, and going, and going…….:) I think it will look nice dressing up the outside of envelopes too. Thank you for sharing.
