How to draw PANGEA

It’s been a while since we had a new tangle from Zentangle HQ but lucky for us at November’s zenAgain 2021 reunion for CZTs, Rick and Maria introduced two new tangles. And this week they released them both publicly in the Day 1 video of this year’s 12 Days of Zentangle – Keeping Score, Project Pack #16.

As always I will publish my detailed Summary of the Project Pack after its conclusion on December 23rd. For a complete list of Zentangle’s Project Packs and their {very} detailed Summaries click the PROJECT PACKS link in the pink alphabetic tangle menu bar.

Pangea is both a tangle and a reticulum. As as noted in recent weeks this type of tangle seems to be “in the air”.

And truth be told Pangea was actually first published way back in 2010 by Canadian CZT Genevieve Crabe as Vache 2. It also shares DNA with Linda Dawson’s Amoeba!

For those who aren’t geologists, here’s a little Wikipedia info:

Pangaea or Pangea was a supercontinent that existed during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras.

It assembled from earlier continental units during the Carboniferous approximately 335 million years ago, and began to break apart about 200 million years ago, at the end of the Triassic and beginning of the Jurassic. In contrast to the present Earth and its distribution of continental mass, Pangaea was centered on the Equator and surrounded by the superocean Panthalassa and the Paleo-Tethys and subsequent Tethys Oceans.

Pangaea is the most recent supercontinent to have existed and the first to be reconstructed by geologists.

It is the perfect name for this tangle/reticulum and as you can see Pangea is ripe for adding absolutely any tangles or embellishments within the shapes. Including some minimalist shading 🙂

Maria demonstrates how to draw Pangea starting at 00:34 in the Day 1 video of this year’s12 Days of Zentangle – Keeping Score, Project Pack #16. The printable steps can be found here in the Zentangle newsletter. Pangea‘s companion tangle Mrth will appear in your inbox a little later today.

In case you’re wondering what my {very} detailed Project Pack summaries can do for you …

I’ll let Dessie explain:

Dear Linda,
I am always excited to see what new tangle you focus on on Mondays, Wednesdays, and sometimes Fridays. When I saw that today you were going to talk about Project Pack 7, I was a little disappointed, until I saw what you did! I have been watching the videos, and scribbling down the steps to jog my memory, so that I can do the project. I’d only gotten through Day 2. When I saw your detailed instructions, along with the links, and pictures provided by Zentangle, I was DELIGHTED! I’m now printing out this lovely hard-copy reference, which I’ll use (after watching the videos, unencumbered by the need to take notes, thanks to your hard work). So, many thanks for today’s post! I am sure that I’m not the only one who will find it very helpful!
