How to draw KANGULAR

Spanish CZT Tomàs Padrós is with us today sharing two fantastic new sister tangles.

First we’ll take a look at Kangular and a little later today we’ll explore its sister tangle Blooming Kangular.

Tomàs describes his tangle, the reason for its name and gives us some tips:

The name Kangular combines three words: Kangaroo, Angular, and Modular.

Its appearance refers to a groove that forms a 90 degree corner, from which a square emerges. We can decorate it as we want or leave it blank, as if it were a card, paper or embedded handkerchief. In these cases we would stay in the fourth step.

But if we want to suggest a ribbon, the fifth step is necessary. That is, you have to add a small black square in the corner, with which a virtual ribbon that develops in a zigzag is suggested. This step enhances the modular concept contained in the word Kangular. A module is that formal unit that combined in various positions allows more complex configurations with a continuity effect.

That’s why I think Kangular’s more complete expression includes this step.

The word angular describes its general appearance. And the word kangaroo suggests the pouch from which the baby kangaroo emerges.

It can be interpreted as a fragment and as a ribbon. It can also be fun to pop any other shape or tangle out of the slot.

BTW, I hope you followed that link above to learn about the amazing kangaroo’s pouch for the little joey. Fascinating!

Fortunately for us Tomàs is very thorough explaining and illustrating ways to explore his tangles and today he shares three different sets of instructions. Enjoy!!

Tomàs illustrates his first set of three step-by-step instructions for drawing Kangular below.
