Today’s 9/2 tangle is from Taiwan CZT Lin Chiu and it’s her sixth on the site including Oaura, Xmas Red, and Flovine. I’ll leave the remaining two as a mystery for you to solve 🙂
Lin writes,
“9/2” was created for my daughter Yu-Syuan who just turned one year old. Her birthday is September 2, so I tangled this pattern with the numbers 9 and 2.
The hidden heart shape can also be seen in the pattern, because I expected my daughter can grow up in full of love. May all the happiness and joy to be tightly by her side.
Because she was born in 2020, the elements of 2020 can also be seen in this pattern!
{Great way to frame a photo! Hmmm … Christmas gift idea?} 9/2 is a lovely tribute to Lin’s sweet little daughter Yu-Syuan. I explored a few embellishments for my example and ultimately settled on this one, I resisted the urge to use the grid version!
Lin illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing 9/2 below and features it in a grid example as well as a gorgeous ZIA grey tile with lovely turquoise square gems. Note that the steps go down the column. Unless I’m just really thick today (always a possibility), I think the number 9 is reversed (Step 3)? Update: it appears I am thick today, see Susan Pundt’s enlightenment in the comments.

Look at that top “9” in step 3, Linda…all in red. The “9’s” are pointed the correct way if you consider the N E S W axes to be the stems of the 9’s and the blue NE, SE, SW, NW lines to be additional and the diagonals of the “2’s.”…I think (and type and am sometimes thoroughly mistaken). This is a fun, versatile pattern, and with a darling honoree.
Hah! Thanks Susan. I was looking at the angled stroke and completely overlooked the vertical/horizontals. I AM thick today 😉
