How to draw DIAMOOK

Thanks for your company on this Presidents’ Day Holiday Monday, a nice long weekend together with yesterday’s Valentine’s Day. I hope you enjoyed a sweet one.

Today’s pretty Diamook tangle is from Indian tangler Sanyukta Saxena, a member of the virtual CZT seminar #36. The first online certification seminar was a massive class made necessary by the ongoing pandemic preventing folks from traveling to Providence RI for the intimate in-person experience at the home of Zentangle®. From what I understand we had an influx of over 500 new “Zoomed” CZTs to share the Zentangle love as a result of that adventure 🙂

Diamook is Sanyukta’s first tangle on the site. She writes,

I live in Bangalore, India. I have been practicing the Zentangle Method™ for 3 years now. I basically have a finance background as far as my education is concerned. Art and craft were always a hobby until Zentangle happened. I now intend to take my practice further by teaching the method.

Diamook is a combination of diamond shape with Mooka, it makes a lovely border/ ribbon style tangle.

Sanyukta illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Diamook below where she demonstrates it in three lovely tiles paired with Zentangle-original tangles you’re sure to recognize and CZT Suzanne McNeill’s Bubbles.

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. Sanyuktas … thank you for your tangle. I will start practising it this afternoon. I spent 6 months with my husband in 2008 in Bangalore. I spent 13 hours a day at IBM India helping graduates newly hired by IBM India to support American Company IT departments backup and recover their IT data. It was exhausting work but my husband had a wonderful time walking the back streets of the city. We tried to go back the following year but IBM India found less expensive ways of training their new employees. It’s a treat to follow CZT’s from India.

  • This is beautiful! And it’s easy to draw. What a wonderful border pattern! The samples are really lovely as well. Thank you!
