A very happy Monday to you! And Happy February in a Leap Year so we get a whole extra day this month!
A week from this Friday is Valentine’s Day and in preparation for your handmade cards and notes we have Hearting, a super easy one for you to tangle.
Hearting is from Taiwan CZT Hsin-Ya Hsu who has many lovely tangles on the site including another pretty heart-based tangle Lolo.
Hsin-Ya explains what inspired her tangle and gives some tips on how to tangle Hearting,
My inspiration is this beautiful bowl.

The blank area in the middle looks like a ring of hearts, I combined “heart” and “ring” into “hearting”. The meaning of the name is even better.
It is a set of two radians, like writing a “3” so that you can draw the heart. This is very important.
This tangle can be connected to the center point, also can surround a circle.
I think if you make it bigger, maybe it’s a great string.
The eagle-eyed may have noticed Hsin-Ya’s inspiration bowl has a couple of Zentangle®-original tangles on it too.
This is Hsin-Ya’s example of a double ring of Hearting which almost creates a floral effect. The heavier outline stroke together with shading adds a 3D look to the tangle.

In one of the Project Pack 07 videos, CZT Molly Hollibaugh observes,
“In many of these videos you will notice a theme of working with tangles that blossom, radiate or in many cases create their own space rather than fill a predefined space.
These tangles or tangling techniques are exciting and often become the star of the show.“
There are many tangles on the site like Hearting that blossom or radiate (see the tag radial) and become the star of the show.
Hsin-Ya illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Hearting below. Hearting is lovely as is but its open spaces also invite all kinds of interesting embellishment too.

- What Makes a Zentangle tangle? A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle. Patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles, and tangles never start with pencil planning.

Share your Tangle on TanglePatterns
Have you created a tangle you'd like to share with the community? I'd love to see it.
You do not need to be a CZT to submit a pattern. Many of the tangles on TanglePatterns began as ideas shared by readers just like you.
Before sending your pattern, please take a few minutes to review What Makes a Zentangle® Tangle? and How to Submit Your Pattern Deconstruction to TanglePatterns. These pages on the SUBMIT YOUR PATTERN menu explain what qualifies as a tangle and how to prepare your pattern.
Not every pattern will be selected for publication, but I sincerely appreciate everyone who takes the time to share their creativity and contribute to TanglePatterns.
When you're ready, simply send your pattern by email following the instructions on the submission page.
I look forward to seeing what you've created.

Such a pretty pattern, thank you for sharing it!
Really like this one. Thanks for the share.
I love Celtic drawings! Can’t wait to get started ton this one.
This was a lot of fun to try! In our ever changing world, I am really enjoying the positivity of heart tangles. Thank you so much for sharing this.
The synchronicity of Susan A leaving a comment on this tile the same time I saw this pattern on an Indonesian wood carved wall hanging made me immediately fall in love! I had taken a photo at the artisan gallery crossing my fingers someone had deconstructed it as a tangle, and Heartling is it! I have been using tangle constantly and there’s so much to explore 🙂
Thank you!
