How to draw MUMSY

Zentangle pattern: Mumsy. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Rarely does CZT® and popular Zentangle® book author Sandy Bartholomew post steps online for one of the patterns from her books, but the other day Sandy was inspired by her beautiful pink peonies to do just that. Mumsy is the tangle she chose from her most recent book, Yoga for Your Brain.

You may recall I mentioned Mumsy when I posted the Arc Flower tangle pattern recently. Hey MollyAnn, this answers your question! 🙂

Mumsy is such a fun tangle pattern to draw and shading adds visual interest of depth to each layer of the petals. Sandy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for Mumsy here along with photos of her gorgeous peonies, my most favorite flower.

This is a little unusual for TanglePatterns, but it’s my birthday this week and I can do what I want. 😉 Here’s a video I thought I’d share with you, especially if you’re interested in watercolor and Chinese painting. And even if you’re not — this is gorgeous to watch. (Wait for it, there IS a connection to Mumsy here!) Though the video is not in English, visual art knows no language limitations and I’m sure you’ll love and learn from “Peony, Rose, Orchid, and Flowers Chinese painting by Cui Qingguo“.

And check out the tag sandyb for more of Sandy’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com

  • Happy Birthday Linda! And thanks for the link to the Chinese watercolour video, I loved it!

Thanks Genevieve! Older, no wiser … 🙂 So glad you enjoyed the video, I found it just delightful to watch what he can do with that brush. I have one too and simply found it … floppy. Back to the drawing board.

  • Teri

I just have a question. I am new to Zentangle, and I am looking where to buy the Zentangle cards that you draw on. Where do I buy them?

    • Linda Farmer

Hi Teri, if you have a CZT locally you can purchase the tiles and other supplies from her/him. Otherwise you can buy them online from the official Zentangle site. I highly recommend you purchase the kit, you will not be disappointed. The instruction DVD alone is worth the price – consider it the cost of attending a workshop. Welcome and happy tangling!
