How to draw BOUCLE

Canadian CZT Cherryl Moote shares her Boucle (boo-clay) tangle with us today, and it’s her second on the site.

“It is a wave and I call it Boucle (without an accent because that is too hard on an English keyboard).”

Boucle was inspired by the Zentangle®-original tangle Printemps as Cherryl notes, “The spiral nature of the tangle Printemps makes it one of my favourites. I can literally sit and draw it for hours, using it to fill in spaces while I calm my mind. ”

Fabric artists will be very familiar with bouclé:

Bouclé is both a yarn and a fabric made from it.

The yarn is made from a length of loops of similar size which can range from tiny circlets to large curls. To make bouclé, at least two strands are combined, with the tension on one strand being much looser than the other as it is being plied, with the loose strand forming the loops and the other strand as the anchor.

Bouclé is also the name of the fabric made from this type of yarn, especially fabric that maintains the looped appearance.

When you tangle Boucle its yin and yang, black-white suggestion is hard to miss so I filled in half of each motif. And a string of pearls seemed a fun way to Boucle. I even tried Boucle in an inked grid and that works well too, as does using some rounding in the pointy bits. Several ways to vary this tangle.
