Today Canadian tangler Cyndi Knapp shares her Javv tangle with us.
Most recently Cyndi shared her cool Wavlin tangle and Javv becomes her fifth tangle on the site.
She writes,
This simple, non-grid based, geometric pattern transpired as I tangled.
It makes a great filler, border or ribbon and lends itself to variations, several of which are shown.
Sometimes new tangles just pop up as you’re tangling and it’s a fun surprise when it does. No mistakes, just opportunities!
Javv is so interesting to play with. In addition to the various fills possible (or simple embellishments as I added in my example) you can condense or expand the size of the Vs in the first step, and/or vary the distance between the rows in the second step. As well as varying the size of the diamonds in the third step.
Cyndi illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Javv below and she demonstrates it in two lovely ZIAs featuring variations in large and small sizes.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

This is such a lovely, yet simple tangle…Sometimes, simple ideas are the best….This One reminds me of the Argyle pattern socks my mom used to knit for my granddad when I was little!!???
This is a fun tangle; I worked it with the tangle named “Charlie” because I like all things “Charlie Brown.” Looks pretty cool when the two are combined :-D, though I’ll also do this one alone to see how it works up as a ribbon-border.
Hi Cyndi, the zentangle you drew is a variation of your original pattern. Can you show how to draw it because your lines (being double) overlap but do not intersect and I think it would have to be drawn differently. Thanks…great pattern!
I’ll take a stab at that deconstruction, Bunny.
The outer large zigzags/diamonds are done first just the same as Cyndi’s Steps 1 & 2 indicate. Then you aura the outside to get the double lines. Then you do the smaller diamonds that link the larger ones together (Step 3), overlapping and drawing behind Hollibaugh-style, aura-ing those too either on the inside or the outside depending on the size you want. Finally, the fills in the smaller diamonds “disguise” the overlaps. That’s my take! 🙂
Easy and should be fun to work with. Have to try it the next time I find time to tangle.
Thank you for sharing your tangle.
