Happy Columbus Day and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

I’m not sure how many folks actually observe Columbus Day but it’s always good to have a good reason for a Monday off if you are among the lucky ones who have a holiday today.

Columbus Day is a U.S. holiday that commemorates the landing of Christopher Columbus in the Americas on October 12, 1492. It was unofficially celebrated in a number of cities and states as early as the 18th century, but did not become a federal holiday until 1937. For many, the holiday is a way of both honoring Columbus’ achievements and celebrating Italian-American heritage. But throughout its history, Columbus Day and the man who inspired it have generated controversy, and many alternatives to the holiday have proposed since the 1970s. ~ quoted from History.com

The U.S. is not the only country observing Columbus Day, for instance Italy and many Latin American countries also recognize this holiday and you can learn more about that here on Wikipedia.

Today’s lovely Flevo tangle is from tangler Mariët Lustenhouwer of The Netherlands. It has been quite some time since we’ve had a tangle from Mariët but Flevo is her eighth tangle on the site.

Mariët writes,

Because I live in the province Flevoland in the Netherlands I thought this would be a good name.

Delicate and flowing, Flevo begins with a pair of undulating lines and is simply embellished from there.
