How to draw WRAPPED

A simple and lovely new tangle from Arizona CZT Gale Sherman launches our Zentangle® week. Wrapped is Gale’s first tangle on the site.

Gale introduces herself,

As a CZT I get to combine my love of the Zentangle Method™ with my Zen Meditation experience and my decades of teaching all ages from babies to university students.

As a CZT, I am on the staff of the Art Institute at the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum (Tucson, AZ) where I earlier received a Certification in Nature Art.

Wrapped also has an intriguing background, as Gale explains,

It began many decades before when I would take wrappers (the silver foil around chocolate kisses, the paper sleeves holding chopsticks, the wrappers holding a napkins and silverware) and twist and turn them into abstract or semi-realistic objects. My mother encouraged me, probably to keep me quite and still at the table, and often joined me in bending, pinching and folding whatever piece of scraps were at hand. I fondly remember making a “silver” tea set with her out of the foil from chocolate kisses.

All these years later I still fiddle with these bits that appear on restaurant tables; my husband has humored me for 48 years. About a week ago I was fiddling with some fairly stiff paper that originally held my silverware. When I put it on the table I immediately saw a new tangle.

This is Gale’s inspiration for her Wrapped tangle.

Gale’s original version of Wrapped actually looks like this example on the right. I tangled this last week while readying for Irma and my agitation wanted to do “something” to fill the white space. So I added weight to the center S stroke and doubled the “curls” and used that for my main example above.

Then I wondered if I could play with Wrapped in a Hollibaugh (or Laced) style, and the example on the left was the result. Simple experiments with tangles are always interesting and fun!

Gale illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Wrapped below and she shows us three different ways to use Wrapped in our Zentangle tiles. In her Zentangle tile example, Gale demonstrates Wrapped with two Zentangle-original tangles and some bursts of CO2.
