How to draw PEZEMBER

Surprize! I couldn’t rezist adding this extra “one last tangle” for Dezember, 2016!

Pezember is from Austrian CZT Peter Fruehwirt, and it’s his first on the site.

When I inquired about how he came up with the name Pezember for his tangle Peter replied,

“Well – this was the hardest piece of work for me I have to say. Finally I just put the first two letters of my name ‘PE’ and combined them with the German word for the actual month ‘DEZEMBER’ – and voilà – the outcome was ‘PEZEMBER’ .“

Peter is from the municipality of Traismauer in Austria. In stark contrast to the entry for Dresden we just explored here, Wikipedia doesn’t tell us much at all about Traismauer but it does offer that “It was established by the Romans, probably on a location of prior settlements. Some Roman buildings survive to this day.” Not quite like the transitory construction of our times …

Peter introduces himself,

“I’m a Zentangle-enthusiast since 2014 and attended CZT24 this June.

One of my main passions with Zentangle is to play with patterns and to explore their possible variations.

Last week I played around with W2, one of my favourite patterns and this is how ‘Pezember’ came up – my very first pattern.

Pezember starts exactly like W2, but in step 3 and 4 you add an aura to the perpendicular strokes before drawing the horizontal ones in step 5 using the ‘Hollibaugh‘ style of drawing behind.

In the step-out I have created one monotangle with Pezember and one Zentangle where I have again played with this pattern.”

Pezember is for fans of straight lines and starts out much like Weben. But if you feel like using curves as I experimented with, they produce an interesting variation that resembles knitting.

Peter illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Pezember below and features it in a monotangle and a version including the Zentangle®-original tangles Mooka and Diva Dance, Rock and Roll variation, together with auras and perfs/orbs.
