Tangle Refresher 135 and Zentangle, a piano, and Life & Art Entangled

Tangle Refresher!Today I’m sharing the beautiful and inspiring documentary video “Life & Art Entangled” by film maker David Cowardin featuring Duluth, Minnesota, CZT Esther Piszczek.

As the film maker explains on his now-defunct blog,

The plan was to film Esther Piszcek drawing Zentangle inspired patterns on an upright piano that she and her husband rescued and restored. Esther wanted to preserve her artwork in a video in the event that she sold the piano and the buyer decided to paint over it.

Simple project, we thought.

But when we set up our cameras and lights and began filming Esther drawing, something magical and unexpected happened.

Life and Art Entangled tells the story of Esther’s big leap set to the powerful improv performance by Peter Brown. It’s magical to see how Peter’s music and Esther’s story flow so well together, bound together by Esther’s drawings.”

In Esther’s own words,

My goal in making the film was to preserve the artwork on the piano. I never intended for it to be a re-telling of my journey from prosecutor to artist. The outcome is a testament to David Cowardin’s skill as a powerful storyteller. Like my experience with Zentangle®, the outcome was unexpected and completely magical.

I am incredibly grateful for everyone who helped me bring this film to life and turn my dream into reality. I hope Life & Art Entangled inspires the world.

Sit back, relax, enjoy and be inspired by Esther and improv pianist Peter Brown …

As a not-quite-recovered perfectionist myself, I found Esther’s story very powerful and resonant.

Esther has shared several tangles on the site which you can locate using the tag estherp.

Amazing video. Beautifully done and wonderful music to go along with the tangles. Thank you for sharing this with us Linda and Esther and everyone else involved in making this video. Now I’m inspired to tangle a larger piece. 🙂

  • Inspiring great piece Thanks for sharing to all who’ve had a part in this.

  • Shirley Coale

Thank you for sharing the process. It was beautiful. I do tangle on larger pieces and felt validated as I watched Esther working on the piano. The music enhanced everything as well. Now to go work on my translucent acrylic wastebaskets that I’m tangling on for Christmas presents.

  • Anna

  • Beverley Carter

Awe-inspiring. What a wonderful story accompanied by such beautiful music. Thank you so much for sharing and to all those involved in producing this video.

  • Rosemary Turpin

I just loved the video Life and Art Entangled featuring Esther Piszczek tangling on a white piano and Peter Brown noodling knowledge-ably on the same piano. What a meditative and wonderful work of art they both combined to make! Thank you for showing it to us!

    Hey Linda –

Returning once again to an old fav. Just to let you know that the URL to David’s how-to video has gone AWOL.

Love how this project progresses but the music is seamless.

    Cheers
    Linda
