Today’s pretty tangle, Plop, is another one of West Virginia tangler Beth Snoderly’s deconstructions.
When she was searching for a name for her tangle Beth experimented with words like splat and splurt, and eventually ended with up with Plop, since we plop teardrop shaped “splats” into each triangle.
Plop is one of those tangles where you’ll want to be sure to turn your Zentangle® tile to get the tear-drop shapes’ orientation consistent to produce the floral-like end result. Beth notes that the third “tiny drop” (Step 6) is optional, Plop looks perfectly lovely with just two drops. For my example I used all three although they became very tiny when I added the black background fill.
Beth illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Plop below and her monotangle shows several ways to vary her tangle. As with most grid-based tangles, Plop looks great on a “warped” grid — something to keep in mind as you work with any grid-based tangle.

Love it! Beth’s tangles always hit the spot for me. Happy Christmas – I know it’s two weeks yet but it gets busier now.
Very pretty pattern! Thank you for sharing (especially through the busy holidays)!
Beth. I really like your Plop! All of your variations look great. I am going to practice this today. Thank you for sharing. Nancy
Beth, this is a great tangle! I practiced in my journal/calendar and it came out great. I even made a mistake on the tiny tear drop (added too many to the triangle) and it didn’t matter. Thanks for sharing.
Very lovely. I even think it Looks good at step 3. Theoretically, you could step there for a Variation. On the other Hand, it Looks so good completed, and tear Drops are so fun to draw, that would probably require more self Control than I have.
I’m new to tangling and your website is such a fabulous resource I’ll probably never clean my house again. Well–at least not as often as I should. Thanks very much in advance. I’m excited to get started exploring.
I am new to Zentangle. I enjoyed learning PLOP. Thanks
