Here’s another fun tangle pattern from West Virginia tangler Beth Snoderly that she calls Kizzmet. Beth has shared over a dozen fine tangles with us, most recently Spiro.
This one I have been playing with for some time and decided I was finally happy with it. It is basically an over and under arch connected by Xs. I vary the height of the Xs for different looks. I change how I fill in the resulting diamonds and Xs. The [rice shapes] can be shaded or outlined for different effects. It is a fun and versatile pattern.
There certainly are a lot of ways to change the look of this one and I might have gone a bit overboard. I was playing around with my example and decided to attempt a bit of shading in the rice shapes as Beth mentions to give them a little depth. However a combination of my pencil needing sharpening and my tortillion point a little too big and I ended up mostly just smudging graphite around and filling it all in. Different effect but it works too 🙂
Beth illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Kizzmet below.

Enjoy a beautiful, safe, long Memorial Day weekend!
I will still see you on Monday with another tangle …
