Welcome back from the weekend tangle fans. Here’s another cool tangle pattern from West Virginia’s Beth Snoderly.
“This pattern actually came from an old leather belt I remembered as a child. I loved it. It was cut into strips and twisted in a manner that made it look like a spirograph. Thus the name.”
“Spirograph is a geometric drawing toy that produces mathematical roulette curves of the variety technically known as hypotrochoids and epitrochoids. It was developed by British engineer Denys Fisher and first sold in 1965.” — from Wikipedia.
I’m sure many of us remember hours of fun with this creative toy and I was delighted to discover it’s still available today.
Although Beth’s Spiro tangle is based on a grid, the elements of the grid are more rectangular rather than the usual square shape and that gives you space to create the curved lines within. In addition to the simple but intricate web of lines created in Beth’s steps, Spiro can be filled in many different ways that create interesting patterns within the web.
Here Beth illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Spiro.
Check out the tag beths for more of Beth’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.

I just found my spirograph at my mom and dad’s from 1970! i knew there would be a reason to bring it home!
This is mesmerizing! I have not tried it yet, but am anxious to give it a try. Thank you for sharing.
Looks like it is real hard to do but with the great guidelines it is very simple to do. And it looks so delicate. Great design.
This looks like a hard pattern, but I want to try it! I’ll get quiet, and try to be mindful of each line.
Thank you!
Once i mastered the aura knot I think I can take on the world. This is a very cool design and am going to try it right now. Thanks so much.
Thanks so much! I am so glad you like it! Have fun!
I have recently become the proud owner of a Spirograph set! Looking forward to using it! Great pattern, thanks!
I had a Spirograph too, as a child. I really enjoyed it. Now I will try to master this beautiful tangle you have created. Thank you.
