Here’s a really easy tangle pattern to ease into your week. I think kids in particular will love Gutz not only for its name but for how it looks and how much fun it is to draw — for kids of any age.
Gutz comes to us from Ohio tangler Patricia Cosiano and it’s her first on the site. Gutz has a bit of an electronic mystery story to it. Patricia emailed this to me on January 11th but her email didn’t reach my inbox for a month and a half. Where it was in the electronisphere for all that time is anyone’s guess. But the important thing is, it arrived!
“I took Zentangle 101 and 201 from Launie McDevitt in Euclid, Ohio in 2012. Like so many others, I was immediately hooked. While playing with patterns, I ‘found’ this one. I think it looks like Chinese lanterns, but then two of my friends said it reminded them of large intestines. One of those friends came up with the perfect name–GUTZ!“
Patricia illustrates the steps for drawing Gutz below and includes a colorful Zentangle-inspired monotangle of her tangle.
Check out the tag patriciac for more of Patricia’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.

I like the pattern, especially with the colors. Not crazy about the name, but I will definitely try using it. TFS!
Hi Patricia — loved your guts tangle. Your colors are great, too!
[Are you of the Cosiano clan that is/was connected to Baldwin-Wallace? If so, I got my master’s there in 78. I am now in Prescott, AZ and have been teaching at the local life-long learning center at Yavapai college. Tangling is great fun–if your hubby is Patrick, say hello from Joe and Kathy.]
I hope my guts do not look like this (ha)! I love it! Thank you for sharing. I cannot find anyone near me that offers a class. I would love to take a class.
Thank you! Glad you like the tangle, Barbara. Kathy, I am indeed of that clan–My Uncle Pat taught at BW for many years. He is now retired. I’ll say hello the next time I see him!
Sharon, I hope you find a CZT–if not, maybe you should take the class, become a CZT, and start teaching others!
Thank you for your comment Patricia. I am signed up for the June Seminar. I can’t wait to go. I am so thankful for this site and the work that everyone does. It is fantastic!
Patricia, somehow this one got past me. I just found it from your newest tangle LTD. This is great. Looks like lots of fun and can fit anywhere. And I do love the name. 😀
Hi Melena, Just saw this comment! Glad you like Gutz–I realized I haven’t used it for a long time on a tile… There are just so many great tangles out there!
