How to draw PAIZEL

Paizel is a tangle from lettering artist and CZT® Angie Vangalis, and it’s her first on the site.

Paizel is featured in Beckah Krahula’s One Zentangle A Day on a spread that also features Angie’s “Illumitangles” – illuminated letters with tangles. “With Beckah’s book coming out this week, I thought it was time to add Paizel to the TanglePatterns lot,” writes Angie. Perfect timing, thanks Angie!

Part of this tangle pattern uses the official tangle Nekton (illustrated in Sandy Bartholomew’s AlphaTangle – along with 76 more of the original 102 official Zentangle® patterns) as the connecting background for the main motif (Step 6 below).

As you will see in Angie’s beautiful examples below, Paizel makes a very pretty border pattern. I made several attempts using it as an overall pattern and wasn’t particularly successful. For it to be pleasing to my eye, I found the “heads” of the stroke in Step 1 need to be distributed in an attractive pattern first. So, for me, border pattern it is!
