How to draw ZAON

Hello friends! Happy Monday, welcome and many thanks for keeping me company this fine day.

As usual we begin our tangling with a simple one to ease you into your week.

Zaon is from French CZT Carole Coudurier and it’s her first on the site.

Carole writes,

My name is Carole Coudurier, CZT EU 07 and CZT EU 08.

I live in France in Vaucluse.

I discovered the Zentangle Method™ by chance … and I signed up for the seminar a few days later, I had finally found a method to relax and wonderful kindness in this great family.

Carole’s home of Vaucluse in the always-enticing Provence region looks like a fascinating place, and “It is named after a spring, the Fontaine de Vaucluse, one of the largest karst springs in the world. The name Vaucluse itself derives from the Latin Vallis Clausa (“closed valley”) as the valley ends in a cliff face from which the spring emanates.” ~ Wikipedia

Carole introduces her tangle:

The Zaon tangle was born from my wonder at the peacock and my love for India, since I was little.

My neighbor had a couple of peacocks and the male often came to my garden and seeing him do his wheel fascinated me.

I often come across peacocks during my holidays or other and there just by going to get my vegetables from my market gardener his peacock does his wheel to me every time.

And I am always amazed by the beauty of the feathers both in color and shape.

This Zaon tangle adapts as well as a border or as a solo element to represent a plant pattern, a filling, an element, and depending on its use it can also remind me of the fascinating Indian patterns.

Zaon has a bit of Printemps to it and Carole suggests Zaon can be used as a ribbon, a frame or as a fill tangle. While exploring for my example I was reminded of how much I enjoyed CZT Lori Manoogian’s Ansu from many moons ago, they sort of share DNA. For my example I added a touch of rounding on the Zaon ribbon to “cement” it together.

Carole illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Zaon below and demonstrates it on a Renaissance Tan tile with the Zentangle-original Printemps, orbs and the F2 fragment from the Zentangle Primer Vol 1.
